Those that see it as a mere compliance exercise and do not integrate it inot theit company ethos and culture, are struggling. That’s a fact and the reality is once it ends up failing, the cycle is perpetuated and the stereotype is established. BEE and by default ESD has attracted a stereotype attitude within business. A tickbox that needs to be met.
The solution is very simple - strive to achieve genuine and sustainable transformation. Compliance will be a mere consequence.
The objective can be achieved by applying the basic following principles: • Focus on community impact; compliance is merely a consequence; • Preference to long-term sustainability Vs short-term wins • Active engagement of employees and community in the journey • Sustainability/Green methodologies to be applied
